Sunny Street House: Plan 01
$29.00
Shaded backyard? This plan solves a very common property problem when sunlight comes from the street, which typically leaves your house in the dark!
What is it
A resolved architectural floor plan with 2 x variations for suburban sites where street-facing areas receive better sunlight than the backyard.
The plan is supplied in two versions: one for southern hemisphere blocks where the sun comes from the north and one for northern hemisphere blocks where the sun comes from the south.
What you get
- 1 x high-resolution, to-scale architectural floor plan (PDF)
- 2 x living layout variations solving the same site condition in different ways
- Planning logic that is suitable for reference, testing or early design development
From darkness to light
From a home with limited daylight
→ to a light filled home throughout the year
From stagnant air
→ to improved natural airflow and cross-ventilation
From internalised rooms
→ to spaces that have a strong connection with outdoor zones
From conventional suburban layout assumptions
→ to a home structured around design fundamentals - sunlight, airflow and connection to nature
Where it applies
Suburban residential sites where:
- the backyard is predominantly shaded
- the street frontage receives stronger sunlight
- standard layouts fail to optimise daylight, airflow, and outdoor use
FAQ
What are the overall dimensions of the site drawn?
Approximately 18.3m × 38m (60 ft × 125 ft).
Does this work for both northern and southern hemisphere blocks?
Yes. The plan is supplied in two versions: one for southern hemisphere blocks where the sun comes from the north and one for northern hemisphere blocks where the sun comes from the south. The underlying logic is identical; the orientation is mirrored so you can apply it directly to your own block without having to flip drawings yourself.
Is this a finished house design I can build directly?
No. This is a architectural floor plan intended for study, reference and early-stage design thinking. It shows a planning response, not a construction-ready documentation set.
What type of sites is this designed for?
This plan is developed for typical suburban residential lots where the street frontage receives stronger sunlight than the backyard and rear outdoor spaces are often shaded.
What size site does this suit?
It is generally aligned with a typical traditional suburban lot proportions (approximately 18m+ frontage), but the underlying planning logic is adaptable beyond strict dimensions.
What do I actually receive?
You receive a high-resolution, to-scale floor plan PDF plus two spatial variations exploring different responses to the same site condition (as shown on the youtube video). Both hemisphere orientations are included.
Who is this for?
For people exploring a renovation or new build who want to understand how site orientation and light conditions directly influence layout.
Can this be adapted to my own site?
Yes, that's how it's intended to be used. The value is in the underlying spatial logic, which becomes a framework for testing your own layout options against your specific site conditions, council rules and brief.
Do I get an editable CAD, Revit or DWG file?
No. The plan is supplied as a high-resolution, to-scale PDF for reference, study and early-stage design thinking. If you're working with an architect or designer, they can use the layout in their own software using the PDF as the basis, which is the standard way reference plans like this are used.
